Tri Cities Annual Update
Close to 50 Life Sciences enthusiasts gathered at the Taverna Tagaris Winery in the Tri Cities on September 28 to talk about the challenges and opportunities in our industry. This is the third time the WBBA has hosted this event and it continues to grow each year. If you represent a Central or Eastern Washington Life Sciences company or are interested in a live update about what the WBBA and our members are up to, this event is for you! Funding for Startups from the National Cancer Institute
Dr. Gregory Evans visited the WBBA on October 18, 2012 to speak about funding opportunities for small businesses from the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Dr. Evans is Program Director and Team Leader at the NCI's SBIR Development Center. Although the deadline to apply for this specific grant has passed, watch for more events on funding in the coming year. Read a full recap of the event here.
Governor’s Life Sciences Summit & Annual Meeting
The 2012 Governor’s Life Science Summit and Annual Meeting commenced on October 26 with more than 700 industry leaders present: including scientists, business people, consultants, and legislators. The WBBA released the economic data for the sector, we heard from the Governor and both Gubernatorial candidates as well as many industry leaders. November 8 – Pub Night at the Arctic Club Hotel, Seattle
A record night for Pub Night attendance to be sure! Nearly 100 guests mingled and noshed on delicious food sponsored by Praxair at the November Pub night. Guests were treated to raffle items, a cozy ambience, and plenty of great chatter amongst friends and colleagues.
December 4 – Pub Night at Redhook Brewery, Woodinville
It was a great night for a pint at Redhook Brewery in Woodinville! We had a great room, decked out holiday style that was great for networking. Delicious appetizers provided by Business Wire was one of the highlights – did you have those shrimp? We even raffled off a 12-pack of Redhook’s famous brew. We look forward to seeing you at our next social event - Bio on the Vine - on February 21 at Wine World in Seattle. Stay tuned for details!
December 5-6 – VIP Forum with Shire Pharmaceuticals
Shire Pharmaceuticals is a leading pharmaceutical company, and is committed to helping people with life-altering diseases lead better lives. Shire’s areas of interest include CNS, gastrointestinal, and hematopoietic disorders, regenerative medicine, and orphan diseases. Shire Pharmaceuticals sent representatives from its Human Genetic Therapies, Specialty Pharmaceuticals and Regenerative Medicine divisions to Seattle for our latest VIP Forum on December 5-6, 2012. At the Plenary Session on December 5th, the four Shire executives explained their "seek and develop" strategy of acquisition and partnership to nearly 60 attendees. On December 6th, the Shire representatives met with 14 pre-selected local and regional companies and research groups to discuss possible partnering plans.
